What a crazy, crazy year! I've been too busy/lazy recovering from Smash/WCS, but I guess I'm due for a journal? In chronological order:
Sydney Supanova!
I've had some great conventions this year, and Sydnova didn't disappoint. I wasn't dressing as super-popular characters, so I didn't expect a lot of love from con-goers. Saturday I dressed as Fitz-Chivalry from Robin Hobb's book (Fool's Assassin hard-cover to be precise). Robin's my favourite author, and I wanted to show her how much i love her books and appreciate her writing. And I ran into a cosplayer I'd met a few times at cons dressed as the Fool! OMG she looked so perfect XD I wanted to put her in my pocket. And we lined up to meet Robin Hobb and she annoyed me with her damn Ratsy on its stick so perfectly I had to laugh (even though I was struggling to stay in character and get annoyed lol). Meeting Robin was quite blurry, of course, but she did appreciate our costumes Kinda funny that most of the other people in line didn't recognise me, but I guess I was cosplaying from the US cover of a book that wasn't released yet, but J and Robin made my trip worth it:
Sunday I dressed as Kya from Avatar: The Legend of Korra. I had some friends dressing and other characters, and knew of another group of cosplayers doing it too, so we had a big bunch of about 12 of us, and we got some great photos. And goofed around. and took many many selfies. So much fun.
Melbourne Oz-Comic Con
My first Melbourne Convention. It was only really possible because a acquaintance (now quite good friend) offered to let me stay at her house. And I was dying to spend a bunch of money on last minute flights because Dante Basco (aka voice actor of Zuko) was going there. We had a group of me (Zuko), Aang, Katara and Toph, as well as various Korras, another Zuko, a Dai Li agent and just so many awesome people. And photos with Dante. He loved our costumes. And teh VA of Ty Lee was there and jumped in our photo too! Many many selfies.
Sydney SMASH Anime and Manga Convention
This was the big one! I drove for about 11 hours to get there from the Gold Coast. Saturday I wore Ma Chao. If I'd been clever I would've dressed comfortably and taken it easy. But I can't fly with Ma Chao and I'm super proud of him, so i wanted to take the opportunity of me driving to bring him. I can't quite remember what happened to my day: it just disappeared. I competed in the cosplay comp, and, amongst many talented cosplayers, won Best Female
BIG BIG COMP: WCS AUSTRALIA PRELIMINARIES! TEAM ARGH!
So, with my good friend we entered the World Cosplay Summit Australian Preliminary. There were two other very talented and friendly teams. They really were great to hang around with and get to know. Lucy and I competed as Yggdra and Gulcasa from a little-known GBA game called Yggdra Union: We'll Never Fight Alone - two people knew who we were that day, and it was two more than we were expecting. After so many months of working, and almost being in tears a few times because there just seemed too much work to do, WE WON! HOLY BALLS! So we're representing Australia next year in the WCS in Japan So excited. We've picked out our costumes and have started planning/gathering materials.
Brisbane Oz-Comic Con
I only went for one day because I wanted to relax, and in the end, one day was enough for me. There didn't really seem a lot to do. No guests I really wanted to see. I got to meet a lot of other cosplayers and properly talk to them, which was nice. I made a proper dress, too! And weirded a few people out because I was dressed as a female for once: Queen Elinor from Brave (with my perfect Merida)
Brisbane Supanova
At the moment I'm going to rewear Gulcasa, though I may switch partway through to day to Fitz again, because Robin Hobb will be there again. Sunday I'm making Auron from Final Fantasy X. He's one of my favourite characters ever, so I hope I can do him proud.
As always, i post progress etc on my Facebook Page
And that has been my last couple of hectic months <3 Hope I see you at Brisnova!

Sydnova 2014
Short entry, because I'm lazy. I'm coming to Sydnova again this year. And for the third time in a row, I'm bringing an avatar costume haha. Saturday I will be FitzChivalry Farseer from the Robin Hobb books (the new book to be released this year, to be precise), because she's coming to Sydnova and I love Fitz (and will not get recognised, but i love Fitz). Sunday I've got a small korra group together and am cosplaying Kya (Katara's daughter). She's cool, but still a waterbender, so meh. haha.
As a side note, I'm trying to come to Melbourne Oz Comic Con, because Zuko's VA is going, and I want to meet him sooooo badly. And Smash is only
Gold Coast Nova?
Out of duty to do a journal rather than actually having the will to do one.
GCNova was last weekend. I'm stuffed! Saturday I did Ty Lee (ember island players version) with 4 friends. Hardly anyone recognised me sadly (even though its really just normal ty lee with a tutu instead of skirt thingy). Even other avatar cosplayer who i greeted when we walked past just kind of kept walking. Don't know if that reflects on their lack of bother, lack of etiquette or lack of avatar knowledge. But the cosplay comp made up for them anyway :D Lucy (our Katara) had written an awesome skit that was so stupidly funny, it went down pretty well with the
Quick update and facebook page
Well after the crazy crazy ride that was Madman National Cosplay Championship at Brisnova, I've been trying (kind of) to clean and relax for a few weeks, and haven't updated. And don't have the keeping-awake power to do a decent run down here yet. To summarise: I didn't place, but looked fabulous. It was great meeting everyone and congrats to Siera, Will & Anna for placing, and Rebecca and Greg for their awesome costumes. Honestly just to be amongst all the high-quality competition and not have my costume look shabby by comparison was the real win for me. Next year is a bit undecided at the moment, since I want to compete in a nation
Post-Sydnova, Pre-Smash and MNCC Wildcard :O
Busy busy!
Sydney Supanova was good fun! I thought I'd ruined my Lin Bei Fong armour on the plane because my box came out a bit crushed, but it survived. Saturday I circled around as Noel from FFXIII-2 with ~Miyukiko (https://www.deviantart.com/miyukiko) as Serah. We'd never actually met before, but it was really nice to hang with her for most of the day
I got to meet so many people I'd seen on deviantart and facebook, it was really cool :D Also got to see the Sydney round of the Madman National Cosplay Competition. That was some serious competition! All the competitors had good costumes and sktis.
Sunday I teapot-ed around as Lin Bei Fong. Got to meet :iconshadowbu
