What a crazy, crazy year!  I've been too busy/lazy recovering from Smash/WCS, but I guess I'm due for a journal? In chronological order:

Sydney Supanova!
I've had some great conventions this year, and Sydnova didn't disappoint.  I wasn't dressing as super-popular characters, so I didn't expect a lot of love from con-goers.  Saturday I dressed as Fitz-Chivalry  from Robin Hobb's book (Fool's Assassin hard-cover to be precise).  Robin's my favourite author, and I wanted to show her how much i love her books and appreciate her writing.  And I ran into a cosplayer I'd met a few times at cons dressed as the Fool!  OMG she looked so perfect XD  I wanted to put her in my pocket.  And we lined up to meet Robin Hobb and she annoyed me with her damn Ratsy on its stick so perfectly I had to laugh (even though I was struggling to stay in character and get annoyed lol).  Meeting Robin was quite blurry, of course, but she did appreciate our costumes :D  Kinda funny that most of the other people in line didn't recognise me, but I guess I was cosplaying from the US cover of a book that wasn't released yet,  but J and Robin made my trip worth it:
Sunday I dressed as Kya from Avatar: The Legend of Korra.  I had some friends dressing and other characters, and knew of another group of cosplayers doing it too, so we had a big bunch of about 12 of us, and we got some great photos.  And goofed around.  and took many many selfies.  So much fun.

Melbourne Oz-Comic Con
My first Melbourne Convention.  It was only really possible because a acquaintance (now quite good friend) offered to let me stay at her house.  And I was dying to spend a bunch of money on last minute flights because Dante Basco (aka voice actor of Zuko) was going there.  We had a group of me (Zuko), Aang, Katara and Toph, as well as various Korras, another Zuko, a Dai Li agent and just so many awesome people.  And photos with Dante.  He loved our costumes.  And teh VA of Ty Lee was there and jumped in our photo too!  Many many selfies.

Sydney SMASH Anime and Manga Convention
This was the big one!  I drove for about 11 hours to get there from the Gold Coast.  Saturday I wore Ma Chao.  If I'd been clever I would've dressed comfortably and taken it easy.  But I can't fly with Ma Chao and I'm super proud of him, so i wanted to take the opportunity of me driving to bring him.  I can't quite remember what happened to my day: it just disappeared.  I competed in the cosplay comp, and, amongst many talented cosplayers, won Best Female :D
BIG BIG COMP:   WCS AUSTRALIA PRELIMINARIES!   TEAM ARGH!
So, with my good friend :iconmittenkitten: we entered the World Cosplay  Summit Australian Preliminary.  There were two other very talented and friendly teams.  They really were great to hang around with and get to know.  Lucy and I competed as Yggdra and Gulcasa from a little-known GBA game called Yggdra Union: We'll Never Fight Alone - two people knew who we were that day, and it was two more than we were expecting.  After so many months of working, and almost being in tears a few times because there just seemed too much work to do, WE WON!  HOLY BALLS!  So we're representing Australia next year in the WCS in Japan :D  So excited.  We've picked out our costumes and have started planning/gathering materials.

Brisbane Oz-Comic Con
I only went for one day because I wanted to relax, and in the end, one day was enough for me.  There didn't really seem a lot to do.  No guests I really wanted to see.  I got to meet a lot of other cosplayers and properly talk to them, which was nice.  I made a proper dress, too!  And weirded a few people out because I was dressed as a female for once: Queen Elinor from Brave (with my perfect Merida)

Brisbane Supanova
At the moment I'm going to rewear Gulcasa, though I may switch partway through to day to Fitz again, because Robin Hobb will be there again.  Sunday I'm making Auron from Final Fantasy X.  He's one of my favourite characters ever, so I hope I can do him proud.

As always, i post progress etc on my Facebook Page

And that has been my last couple of hectic months <3  Hope I see you at Brisnova!

Sydnova 2014

2 min read
Short entry, because I'm lazy.  I'm coming to Sydnova again this year.  And for the third time in a row, I'm bringing an avatar costume haha.  Saturday I will be FitzChivalry Farseer from the Robin Hobb books (the new book to be released this year, to be precise), because she's coming to Sydnova and I love Fitz (and will not get recognised, but i love Fitz).  Sunday I've got a small korra group together and am cosplaying Kya (Katara's daughter).  She's cool, but still a waterbender, so meh. haha.
As a side note, I'm trying to come to Melbourne Oz Comic Con, because Zuko's VA is going, and I want to meet him sooooo badly.  And Smash is only two months away.  Which means 2 months to do 70% of my WCS costume.  Ouch.  Have fun everyone!

Out of duty to do a journal rather than actually having the will to do one.

GCNova was last weekend.  I'm stuffed!  Saturday I did Ty Lee (ember island players version) with 4 friends.  Hardly anyone recognised me sadly (even though its really just normal ty lee with a tutu instead of skirt thingy).  Even other avatar cosplayer who i greeted when we walked past just kind of kept walking.  Don't know if that reflects on their lack of bother, lack of etiquette or lack of avatar knowledge.  But the cosplay comp made up for them anyway :D  Lucy (our Katara) had written an awesome skit that was so stupidly funny, it went down pretty well with the audience :D  Pretty good with the judges too, I guess, since we won best group in the daily comp. Doing an ember island player group was one of my dream groups, so I'm so happy i got to do it with my friends, and have a truckload of fun.
Sunday I wore Ma Chao again (Dynasty Warriors 7), since hardly anyone got to see him at Brisbane Supanova (due to heat, competition and general exhaustion).  I made 5 extra weapons for it, because I'm a bit obsessed with making weapons, and DW has some crackers.  I did a skit in the daily comp, just sparring with the weapons (aka dying while swinging them madly), and somehow won the best cosplay in advanced :D Wow i died from heat and heavy costume.  My shoulders and forehead still hurt, two days later.
So great meeting lots of cosplayers at GCNova :D  And seeing Tess and Nai win the GC round of MNCC with stunning costumes. OMG they were sooooo pretty.  Muchos touchies.

Now I have to get onto Sydney Supanova costumes, and WCS costume :D scary!  I've already started a bit on the weapons (because of course there are weapons).  And just need to finalise my sydnova choices (looking like either Adult Toph or Kya (from Korra - depending on how much time i have), and Fitz from Robin Hobb's books (probably from the cover of the new book coming out).  Brisnova plans are still incredibly loose at the moment.  At the moment thinking of doing a Final Fantasy X group, and doing Auron, because I will look nothing like him, but he's my fav :D  and big weapon, of course :D

Well after the crazy crazy ride that was Madman National Cosplay Championship at Brisnova, I've been trying (kind of) to clean and relax for a few weeks, and haven't updated.  And don't have the keeping-awake power to do a decent run down here yet.  To summarise: I didn't place, but looked fabulous.  It was great meeting everyone and congrats to Siera, Will & Anna for placing, and Rebecca and Greg for their awesome costumes.  Honestly just to be amongst all the high-quality competition and not have my costume look shabby by comparison was the real win for me.  Next year is a bit undecided at the moment, since I want to compete in a national comp with my friend :iconmittenkitten: but her uni exams are in the way of MNCC. So...errrr, we might be doing something else? haha  I've got a photoshoot planned for Ma Chao in a few weeks, which I'm so so happy to be doing (except I have to wear it, and have to melt in it, and have to move in it), so pics will eventually filter onto here.

So far, costumes planned to do next year are Ty Lee in a gigantic Ember Island Players group for GCNova next year, Kya from Korra for...something? Brienne of Tarth for maybe Sydnova, though I was looking at the armour and it's more daunting than I thought.  Also really want to make adult Toph to do an Old Friends avatar group...sometime, with some people lol  And finish making Sinbad from Magi just because its mostly done and sad if it doesn't get finished.

Also, for those who don't know, i DO have a facebook page, which I update quite regularly, especially with WIP pics, since I don't really like putting them up here.  I'll still upload shoot pics, but I don't really do many of them in a year because I'm so slow with costumes.

Busy busy!

Sydney Supanova was good fun!  I thought I'd ruined my Lin Bei Fong armour on the plane because my box came out a bit crushed, but it survived.  Saturday I circled around as Noel from FFXIII-2 with :iconmiyukiko: as Serah.  We'd never actually met before, but it was really nice to hang with her for most of the day
I got to meet so many people I'd seen on deviantart and facebook, it was really cool :D  Also got to see the Sydney round of the Madman National Cosplay Competition.  That was some serious competition!  All the competitors had good costumes and sktis.
Sunday I teapot-ed around as Lin Bei Fong.  Got to meet :iconshadowbuuproductions:  we'd had discussions regarding Zuko's swords before on here, and of course we immediately launched into "cosplaying zuko" comparisons lol  Tried, slightly unsuccessfully, to have a mini shoot with :iconcielroses: and :iconk-tetsu: as Mako and Korra.  I pretty much died in my armour, as always.  I also got asked to judge the daily cosplay comp both days, which was an interesting look at things.  And I got a really close view of some things I wanted to see (buff guys cosplaying from Sparta) and some things I really didn't want to see (someone's pants continually slipping down, amongst many others).
I've decided I'm going to try and come to Smash, which is in two weeks' time.  I haven't booked flights or organised accomodation yet though.  I'm desperately trying to get Sinbad (from Magi) made in time, since I really want a new costume.  I've only made one costume this year, and its getting a bit sad to just recycle costumes all the time.  I thought it would be a nice simple one.  But he has SO MUCH BLING!  Its killing me making all of it!
I've also had 2 shoots for Lin in the last two weeks.  One was a Korra group shoot with :iconmittenkitten:  :iconafro13: :iconkerryn-butterfly: and some others who don't have DA.  I've only got one of the pics up on my DA so far.  I'll put the rest up eventually.  I also had a Lin shoot with :icontits--mcgee: as Toph today.  We went to a cemetery and did some sad ones, and then to another location for some general bending and other goofball ones EG Attack on Lin lol

But aside from that the big news is: I GOT A WILDCARD TO THE MADMAN NATIONAL COSPLAY COMPETITION FINALS!  So happy :D  There were only two handed out this year, so to get one was a huge honour!  The competition is very experienced in cosplay and competitions, so I've got my work cut out.  But I hope I give them a run for their money, at least.  I'll certainly be trying.  I'd semi-started my costume after GCNova just in case I did get one, but with only 3 months left to go before Brisnova and the finals i have a LOT to do.  And many things to work out, since so much of cosplay is new to me.  And a skit to work out.  I've only done 3 skits before, so I'm very green with them.  Wish me luck!
