Description
Brisbane Supanova 2012 Sunday
Gran Gran Katara: Margaret Bergeron (my mum!)
Lin:
Costumes:
Katara - wig and jewellery by me, costume by Mum
Lin - Wig & costume by me
This was my first attempt at making armour and I was VERY happy with the results, though I'd love to go back and remake it if i ever have time, since I learnt so much doing it. It's made from EVA foam (aka camping/yoga mats) for the body, and craft foam for the arms and legs and shoes. I didn't want to use spray paint, since it isn't very flexible with the bendy foam, so i painted it with a mixture of different fabric paints to get the right colours, after i had sealed it with a gazillion coats of watered down PVC glue and fabric glue. I then varnished it, since the fabric paint alone, while nice and metallic, dried really sticky and liked to collect dust and hair and fur.
I got a lot of compliments which were very appreciated, and so did my mum! Best one was when she took a photo of the queen of hearts, who said called out afterwards "thanks gran gran!"
