Gran Gran Katara: Margaret Bergeron (my mum!) Lin:
Costumes: Katara - wig and jewellery by me, costume by Mum Lin - Wig & costume by me
This was my first attempt at making armour and I was VERY happy with the results, though I'd love to go back and remake it if i ever have time, since I learnt so much doing it. It's made from EVA foam (aka camping/yoga mats) for the body, and craft foam for the arms and legs and shoes. I didn't want to use spray paint, since it isn't very flexible with the bendy foam, so i painted it with a mixture of different fabric paints to get the right colours, after i had sealed it with a gazillion coats of watered down PVC glue and fabric glue. I then varnished it, since the fabric paint alone, while nice and metallic, dried really sticky and liked to collect dust and hair and fur.
I got a lot of compliments which were very appreciated, and so did my mum! Best one was when she took a photo of the queen of hearts, who said called out afterwards "thanks gran gran!"
Thanks! I was sweltering that day and it was overcast! I had a Lin photoshoot last weekend too, so hopefully some photos back from the photog soon. and have a korra group shoot in a few weeks, so more pics!
The first time she cosplayed was at Sydnova last year (she's lives down near there, so i flew down so i could drag them to a con and show them what I keep going on about). I made her, my sister and her kids avatar costumes and we all went. But they'd never really seen avatar before that (except for the few days before where we marathoned as many eps as we could), so she didn't love avatar. She does like sci fi, but i think she did it so she had an excuse to come spend some time with me doing something I like I was pretty glad she was there though: Lin was VERY uncomfortable and hard to move in, so I needed a lot of help. And she does a pretty good job of getting the poses right
Thanks so much! I think a lot of people were surprised someone had tried Lin, but I love her, and she suits me pretty well, physically, and personality. Funnily enough, the previous day my mum was cosplaying Toph sadly we didn't get a photo together on sunday since we were both too busy prepping.
What did your mum think of cosplay? She must love avatar too!
